New Zealands first AFB Detector Dog.The use of dogs for the detection of various odours is nothing new. Dogs can be trained to find illegal drugs, prohibited foodstuffs, explosives... you name it, if it smells they can find it.
The latest and a first for New Zealand is the detection of American Foulbrood, a serious diseases in beehives.
Jesse, a black Lab has been successfully working for Gowanleagold Limited's 3000 beehive operation for 8 years and is now available to search other apiaries around New Zealand.
